In Katowice Airport, managed by Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze SA, numerous infrastructure and construction projects are implemented, which significantly improve safety, capacity, comfort of passengers and enable dynamic development of the airport. Polish Air Navigation Service (PAŻP) has been involved in the investment process in Pyrzowice since the beginning. On June 23, 2017, a ceremony was held to sign the act of setting the cornerstone under the new Airport Control Tower.
Within the PAZP efforts in Katowice Airport, the Agency has equipped a radio navigation system to assist aircraft landing in low visibility (ILS), an essential (east) approach to the new runway launched in May 2015, and has prepared appropriate landing procedures. This greatly improved the availability of Katowice Airport during bad weather conditions.
Another PAZP investment at the Pyrzowice airport is the construction of a new control tower.
Construction of the new airport control tower began in the first half of March 2017. The investment company is Budimex SA. The cost of the venture is almost 25 million PLN. The new tower will be the tallest TWR in Poland at a height of 46 meters, with an operating level of 41 meters. The cubic capacity of the building will be 7350 m3 and its surface area is 1832 m2.
Completion of construction is planned for the first quarter of 2018. Then the process of equipping the object with the appropriate equipment begins. Operational use is scheduled for the end of 2018.
