The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) is to join the A6 Alliance of European air navigation service providers (ANSPs) working towards the deployment of SESAR to achieve the Single European Sky.
PANSA’s decision means that seven of Europe’s nine Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) are now represented within the A6 Alliance. PANSA is a member of FABaltic’a, which includes Poland and Lithuania and covers more than 400,000 sq km, handling more than 700,000 flights per annum.
Krzysztof Kapis, President of PANSA, signed a Letter of Intent with other A6 Alliance members at their Steering Board meeting in Frankfurt. PANSA will work with the A6 Alliance and become a full member with the extension of SESAR JU to 2024.
Richard Deakin, CEO of NATS and Chair of the A6 Alliance, said: “We are delighted to welcome PANSA into the alliance and look forward to working together to ensure the aligned and consistent deployment of SESAR. We have made more progress as an alliance than would otherwise have been the case and we share a common aim to deliver the efficiencies that SESAR will bring.”
Mr Kapis said: “PANSA is very pleased to take the first steps to joining the A6 Alliance. We see this as a strategically vital organisation in binding the European ATM industry together to deliver SESAR, and help achieve the Single European Sky.
"Extending the A6 Alliance to include a service provider from Central and Eastern Europe means we will share maximum resources and experience. PANSA will also be able to represent the viewpoint and interest of ANSPs from the eastern part of the European Union.”
The A6 Alliance is currently working on a number of projects to support SESAR deployment, and is currently bidding for European funding to support deployment of future network and datalink infrastructures. PANSA is working with some A6 Alliance members as part of a wider grouping to consider bidding to become the Deployment Manager.
The founder members of the A6 Alliance – AENA, DFS, DSNA, ENAV, NATS and Noracon are full members of the SESAR Joint Undertaking. Their role is to create synergies between the ANSP members of the SESAR JU to maximise customer and network benefits and to provide leadership at a European level in critical technical and strategic areas.
Seven of Europe’s nine Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) – the geographic pillar of SES - are now represented within the A6. These include: Danish/Swedish FAB; FABaltic’a; FAB Central Europe; FABEC; North European FAB; UK/Ireland FAB and South West FAB. While the FABs are primarily focused on operational performance improvement, the A6 is focused on SESAR development and deployment, SESAR deployment execution (planning, governance, funding), and key strategic areas of A6 common interest related to transport and aviation legislation, industry stakeholders.
