Definitions of structures

Temporary Segregated Areas (TSA)

Airspace of defined dimensions over land areas, internal waters and territorial waters of Poland, within which activities require reservation of airspace for exclusive use by a specified user during a specified period of time. The zone’s activity is published in the AUP.

Temporary Reserved Areas (TRA)

Airspace of defined dimensions over land areas, internal waters and territorial waters of Poland, within which activities require reservation of airspace for use by a particular user during a specified period of time, and through which other air traffic is allowed to fly after obtaining permission from the organizer and on communication with the competent air traffic services authority or the competent military authority, or under conditions agreed with the relevant flight organizer. TRA zone activity is published in the AUP.

Temporarily segregated zone in the form of a danger area (D)

Temporarily segregated area (TSA) over open sea outside the territorial waters of Poland. Such zones are segregated in the form of danger areas, in order to enable the effective transmission of information from the AMC to the concerned air traffic management authorities of neighboring countries and airspace users about planned activities that may endanger the safety of civil aircraft over open seas (over the waters of the Baltic beyond the territorial waters of Poland). The activity of such an area is published in the AUP.

Prohibited Area

Includes the airspace located over the territory of the Republic of Poland, in which the flight of aircraft is prohibited from ground level to a certain height, in particular, the airspace over objects in which explosive substances and mixtures are accumulated.

Danger Area

Includes EPWW FIR airspace in which activities hazardous to the flight of aircraft may take place, in particular, the space over artillery, naval and aviation training grounds

Restricted Area

Restriction area, covering the airspace located over the territory of the Republic of Poland, in which the flight of aircraft is restricted by the requirements for their generation of acoustic waves from ground level to a certain height, in particular, the airspace over urban agglomerations and national parks.

Terminal Control Area’s (airport hubs) – TMA

Terminal Control Area (TMA) of an airport or hub of airports includes a portion of the controlled area usually established at the junction of airways in the vicinity of one airport or several (hub) airports.

The horizontal boundaries of the TMA are set to include airspace sufficient to accommodate the IFR flight paths intended to be provided with the appropriate types of air traffic control services, taking into account the capabilities of the navigation equipment used in the area.

Military Terminal (airfield hubs) Controlled Areas – MTMA

TMA controlled area established for a military airport or airfield hub.

Control zone (CTR)

An airport’s control zone includes controlled airspace outside the controlled area, extending from the surface of the ground or water to a specified upper limit.

The lateral boundaries of the CTR should include at least those portions of the airspace outside the controlled area that contain IFR flight paths a/c arriving at airports used under meteo conditions for IFR flights or a/c departing from those airports. Lateral boundaries should extend at least up to 9.3 km (5 Nm) from the airport reference point in directions from which landing approaches may be made.

Controlled zone of a military airport – MCTR

CTR zone established for a military airport.

Priorities for Allocation of Airspace Structures

Airspace reservation applications are reviewed by the ASM1 Strategic Planning Unit and assigned by the AMC according to the following priorities:

  1. International military exercises:
    • with participation of the aviation of the Polish Armed Forces
    • without the participation of the aviation of the SZ of the Republic of Poland
  2. International air shows (e.g., Air Show)
  3. International air competitions (aero clubs)
  4. Competitions of world rank:
    • parachute jumping
    • airplane
    • gliding
    • balloons, motorgliders, paragliders, etc.
  5. Competitions of European rank:
    • parachute jumping
    • airplane
    • gliding
    • balloons, motorgliders, paragliders, etc.
  6. International Polish Championships:
    • parachute jumping
    • airplane
    • gliding
    • balloons, motorgliders, paragliders, etc.
  7. Combined exercises of military types
  8. National air competitions:
    • parachute jumping
    • airplane
    • gliding
    • balloons, motor gliders, paragliders, etc.
  9. National military exercises (training and educational)
  10. Airborne refueling flights
  11. Flights of unmanned aircraft
  12. National air competitions (aeroclub-local)
  13. Record-break attempts (local air shows)
  14. Flights for the needs of the national interest (vaccine dropping, agro-aircraft treatments, patrolling transmission lines)
  15. Photogrammetric flights with approval of the local CAA (ULC)
