When do I need to have a mission?

The requirement to file a flight (mission) plan and obtain pre-tactical flight clearance, along with the submission of flight conditions, applies in following cases:

Every flight that is carried out at a distance smaller than 1 km from the border of a controlled airport (in DRA-R CTR);

IN ADDITION: in case of a flight that is carried out on the premises of an airport, it is mandatory to attach clearance of said airport.

Every BVLOS flight (regardless of location)
Flights at the distance from 1 km to 6 km to the border of a controlled airport (CTR) carried out with MTOM above 0,9 kg, above 30 m AGL – apart from area DRA-R CTR EPRZ;
Flights at an altitude of more than 100 metres, carried out at a distance of more than 6 km from the boundary of a controlled airspace (CTR) – with the exception of the DRA-R CTR EPRZ;
Every flight (!!!) on the premises of the airport DRA-R CTR EPRZ (Rzeszów-Jasionka) during the period of validity of area DRA-R 348; flights are allowed only under 50 m AGL regardless of the distance from the airport;
PLEASE NOTE! When planning missions in geographical areas designated at the request of authorized entities, it is necessary to attach written consent for the conduct of UAV systems operations.

BVLOS flights

The BVLOS flight area designated for the mission is not a designated space exclusively for your operation! Always be aware that there is a possibility of another aircraft appearing.
BVLOS flight areas informing about BVLOS flights are published only for UAV pilots and are not visible to manned aviation!
BVLOS flights planned in geographic zones such as, for example, DRA-R ATZ, DRA-R designated for national parks (within the park boundaries), DRA-R TRA, etc., may take place only with the consent of the zone manager in which the flight will take place.
When designating a BVLOS flight area in the DRA-R EPTR (TRA), DRA-R EPR (R), DRA-R ATZ zone, it should be written in the brief description that the flight will be held outside the activity of the zone or with the approval of the zone manager.
For areas designated in DRA-RL zones, it may be necessary to attach the zone manager approval to the mission plan.
BVLOS flights in active DRA-P EPMRT (MRT), DRA-P EPTS (TSA) zones are prohibited.
In the absence of zone activity (e.g., DRA-R EPTR – TRA, DRA-P EPMRT – MRT) outside the CTR area, the flight may be performed under the rules of uncontrolled space (no need to obtain permission from the zone manager).

Please stick to the deadlines. Please book your flight well in advance:

5 minutes before planned VLOS flight,
6 hours for BVLOS flights.
Missions are mostly accepted automatically.

In controlled airport areas (DRA-R CTR), where there are additional zones requiring the air traffic controller’s approval or the submission of a message to PANSA, requests are processed in the order in which they are received between 7am – 3pm (Monday to Friday) and between 9am – 10am and 7pm – 8pm on Saturdays and public holidays.

KSID Mission Planner is a state-of-the-art tool available on the portal drony.gov.pl (National Drone Information System) that provides comprehensive support for planning UAV missions across the whole country.

Its strengths are:

Assistance in selecting possible flight subcategories – Automatic verification of the qualifications and authorizations of the person planning and conducting the flight.
System-level verification of the planned mission area – Checking mission parameters against the permitted values for the selected flight type (including area size, flight altitude and UAV weight).

Automatic flight feasibility check – Analysis of the mission area in terms of applicable regulations and airspace availability.
Clear information on airspace requirements – For mission plan you specify, the system will provide detailed information on any conflicts with current airspace structures and outline the requirements you must meet to carry out your flight in accordance with the applicable regulations.
It is easier to obtain approval for a mission – The system provides the user with prompts to help them plan the mission:
- In accordance with zone manager’s requirements
- In such way as obtain automatic flight clearance (if possible).

Improving the safety of drone operations – The system provides a wealth of information that is useful for proper flight preparation, which helps to improve the safety of your operations and, consequently, of air traffic. The service includes, amongst other things:
- Information about other planned traffic near your flight area
- Basic ground risk data in your flight area
- Forecast basic meteorological data

If you want to submit a mission in the KSID Mission Planner, you must:

Complete the Mission Planning training course available in the e-learning module after logging in to the system.

2. Link your Pilot account to the DroneTower app. When planning a mission as an operator, it is essential that the pilot to whom you assign the mission has an account linked to the DroneTower app. If the Pilot’s account is not linked to the app, the system will remind you of this at the start of planning with relevant message. Without this, flight planning will not be possible! If you do not have an account on the DroneTower app, download it first and register.

Please note: You can go through the mission planning process without integrating with the DroneTower app by clicking the NOT NOW button. However, at the very end of the mission planning process, you will need to integrate with the app to submit your mission.
