PANSA to install Quintiq workforce planning solution

Warsaw, September 2th 2010 – PANSA, the air navigation service provider (ANSP) in Poland, has awarded a contract to Quintiq to provide its integrated Quintiq Workforce Planning Solution for Air Traffic Control. Quintiq was selected through the EU open tender process as having the best solution for this purpose.

On 29 July 2010 in Vilnius, Polish Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Tadeusz Jarmuziewicz and Lithuania’s Vice Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, Rimvydas Vaštakas signed a Letter of Intent (Lol) on cooperation with regard to the development of the Baltic Functional Airspace Block Initiative.

PANSA President, Mr Krzysztof Banaszek, and Oro Navigacija Director General, Mr Algimantas Raščius, signed on July 30, 2010 in Vilnius, on the basis of the Agreement signed between Polish and Lithuanian Ministers responsible for transport (aviation), a common Program for coordination of activities concerning the Project "Feasibility Study for the establishment of the Baltic Functional Airspace Block (FAB Baltic)” and the development of the Baltic FAB Initiative at the air navigation service providers (ANSPs) level.

A Kick-off meeting on the Project "Feasibility Study for the establishment of the Baltic Functional Airspace Block (Baltic FAB)" was held on July 20-22, 2010 with the representatives of the Contractor of the Study: Helios Technology Limited supported by Ernst & Young Corporate Finance Ltd., as well as with the participation of PANSA and Lithuanian Oro Navigacija (ON) experts. Initial discussions were carried out on potential scope of the cooperation in six key thematic areas significant for the Baltic FAB establishment: operational, technical, safety, financial, personnel management (HR) and legal.

More partners join the SESAR family

The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) endorsed 13 associate partners to contribute to the SESAR work programme. Among others, the Boeing company, Thales Australia, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency and the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) will from now on participate in the work programme. Partnership with all relevant aviation players in the modernisation of the European air traffic management is the key principle of SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research).

CANSO, the Global Voice of Air Traffic Management, has announced that the closure of European airspace in response to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud lead to a 3.5% drop in global air traffic during April.

ASH CLOUD IMPACTS GLOBAL TRAFFIC

Global air traffic during April dropped by 2.3% as a result of the Ash cloud crisis. North European ANSPs were generally hit worst, with airspace closures leading to significant reductions in air traffic. The crisis will add additional pressure on many ANSPs, but particularly ISAVIA, which has controlled fewer movements for several months. Other regions appear to have been less affected by the ash crisis, with Airservices Australia, ATNS South Africa, the FAA, and State ATM Corporation of Russia, among others, reporting growth.

On July 3 2007 Eurocontrol launched the Central Flow Management Unit Operations Room in Brussels. The main task of this unit is to adjust air traffic control procedures to the constantly rising number of passengers travelling between European cities, and between the United States and Europe.
