Network Operations Report - March 2013

Traffic decreased in March by 5.6% compared to March 2012. The traffic was the lowest level for the month concerned since 2004. The “Good Friday” dip that typically occurs during the Easter period, an extra week of the winter schedule occurring during the month and two airline strikes (Lufthansa and Iberia) contributed to the traffic decline in March 2013.

Patrick Ky appointed as new EASA Executive Director

The Management Board of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) today announced the appointment of Mr. Patrick Ky as Executive Director of EASA with effect from 1 September 2013.
Mr. Patrick Ky is currently Executive Director of the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR) Joint Undertaking and has driven the set-up and execution of Europe’s ambitious air traffic management modernisation programme since October 2007.

METRIC TO NON-METRIC UNIT CONVERSION

As of 2 May 2013, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency implements changes into publications of Aeronautical Information Service, concerning conversion from metric into non-metric units.
The conversion applies to: the value of altitude, navigation distances, descent/climb speed and speed. The data will be published appropriately in feet (ft), nautical miles (NM), feet per minute (ft/min) and knots (kt).

Network Operations Report - January 2013

Traffic decreased by 4.4%, which is the lowest level for January traffic for the past five years. Total ATFM delays increased by 33% compared to January 2012 due to a 79% increase in airport weather delays. The average ATFM delay per flight remained stable at 0.9 minutes for the third month in a row. En-route ATFM delays were slightly lower than January 2012.

December traffic lowest in five years

Figures for December 2012 show traffic decreasing by 5.6%, the lowest level of monthly traffic for five years.
When it comes to delays, total Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) delays decreased by 2.1% compared with December 2011, with a more significant drop for en-route ATFM delays.
There was, however, a slight increase in airport ATFM delays. The average ATFM delay per flight remained stable at 0.9 minutes.

1. European flights down 1% in November, significantly lower than forecasted. The low-cost segment was down 3.8% on November 2010.
2. December update of short-term forecast of flight movements is for 1.6% growth in 2012, a downward revision from the September forecast.
3. IATA expects European airlines to make $600 million loss in 2012, a $900 million downward revision from the September forecast.
4. Oil prices around $107 per barrel in December.

European flights increased by 0.3% in October, significantly lower than forecasted. Overall, traffic was similar to 2010 and 2008 levels, but largely below the 2007 level. Traffic demand in November so far has decreased by 1%.
